Most VDA roles are built around process. Ours is built around people.
At Laird, we’ve designed the role differently, using AI and automation to remove admin, reduce friction, and give engineers the space to focus on what actually matters: making accurate, confident decisions.
If you want a rigid, tick-box environment where nothing changes, this probably isn’t for you.
If you want autonomy, trust, and the chance to work in a genuinely modern assessing business, keep reading.
The role
You’ll be responsible for producing high-quality vehicle damage reports, managing claims from assessment through to outcome.
Day to day, that means:
* Producing accurate, consistent engineering reports and estimates
* Assessing repair methods, costs, and repair vs total loss decisions
* Using estimating platforms such as Audatex or similar systems
* Liaising with repairers, insurers, and customers
* Managing your own workload while delivering quality outcomes
This isn’t about rushing volume, more about accuracy, ownership, and doing the job properly.
Built around how engineers should actually work
We have already embedded AI and automation across the business to strip out repetitive admin, improve consistency and report quality, support better decision-making, etc., but the key difference is this: You’re always the decision-maker.
Our engineers operate as the human-in-the-loop, using technology as support, not replacement. Your judgement is what matters.
Training that actually sets you up
Nobody works quite like we do, with cutting-edge AI-powered software, so we provide full, hands-on training on:
* Our bespoke systems
* Industry Software (eg Audatex, Glass's, GT Motive, Thatcham, etc)
* Our workflows and expectations
* How we use AI in real-world assessments
Everything we’ve built is designed to make your job easier, not harder.
Experience levels
We’re open to different levels; what matters most is mindset.
JuniorYou’ve got a genuine interest in cars and some hands-on exposure, maybe from a bodyshop, and want to build a long-term career.
Mid-LevelYou understand estimating and vehicle valuation, likely from a repair background, and can work with a good level of independence.
Experienced (VDA)You’ve done this role before, know what good looks like, and can assess confidently without hand-holding.
What we’re looking for
You take pride in your work, and accuracy matters
You’re comfortable making decisions and owning them
You embrace change rather than resist it
You’re adaptable, we’re constantly evolving
You’re interested in working with modern tools, AI, and automation
What you’ll get
Up to £60,000 per year depending on experience, qualifications & attitude
Flexible working: fully remote or hybrid, with regular trips to the head office on the Wirral.
A tech-led environment that removes unnecessary admin
A relaxed, no-drama culture
The chance to work in a business pushing the industry forward
And a few extras:
Cycle to work, electric car & other salary sacrifice schemes
Company events & seasonal socials
Dog-friendly office (Wirral)
Health Care
A final word
We’re not trying to replicate the old way of doing things. We’re building something better.
If you want to be part of a company that trusts its engineers, embraces technology, and actually evolves, we’d like to hear from you.
