New Business Development Team
We are delighted to announce a complete new line up to our Business Development & Relationship Team for 2018.
Nik Ellis explained some of the thought process for this change of direction. “In our earlier history I introduced young engineer, James Shields, into the business development team & we grew it together until James was confident enough to go it alone. Thirteen years later when he was offered the opportunity to head On Medical we supported him throughly in his career progression.”
However within a month of James moving, his colleague also left leaving a hole in this area of the business. This was a real problem for Laird not having any dedicated business relationship managers so Nik jumped back into his previous BD role and enlisted Lee Baty, Head of Automotive, to assist whilst Laird’s fabled recruitment process was initiated.
Lee said “I was already liaising with our bigger clients on collaborative projects & evolving processes, so it was a natural progression.”
During this time Nik & Lee were able to get a grass-roots feel for how the team were doing & saw a huge opportunity to evolve the entire process. They saw various processes that were good a decade ago but could be improved so much with the availability of new technologies. They worked on every single aspect of BD & left no stone unturned in their quest for Kaizen; constant improvement.
Nik said “Having a clean slate to work with meant we could really understand how we can be of greatest benefit to our clients, what they need from us & how to provide the most effective service.”
One thing that they thought was missing was a consistent point of contact within the office at all times. Therefore they introduced Christine Baty who has been working within Laird for five years so has a wide knowledge base of their products & services. She said “I really embraced this organic advancement & I love being able to help clients swiftly with a subject I’m passionate about.”
Two new faces were hired after an extensive recruitment process, including a somewhat unorthodox interview round over drinks in a local bar. Chloe Pearson, a major force in Jaguar Land Rover’s commercial fleet development team & Peter Henderson, an operations manager from a North West Law firm, were chosen as the outstanding candidates.
Nik said “We’re really happy to have found both Chloe & Peter. Lee & I can see the massive potential they posses. They have a wealth of experience in the industries we straddle; the motor & legal worlds, plus their personalities fit our culture of friendly, open & enthusiastic teams”
Laird will be at every major legal & motor event this year with their new BD team. Nik said, “We feel it’s really important to support the industry & ensure that we’re available for a chat to our existing clients & new faces alike”
With now five members of the BD team for 2018, expect to see much more of Laird’s BD team over the coming months.
